As a Dave Ramsey financial advisor, we are financial planners that choose to work with Dave and his team and agree to abide by a code of conduct. Our firm, Southwestern Investment Group, has been a part of the program since 2002 when it was first introduced as the Endorsed Local Providers for Investing.

In the publicly posted code of conduct, participants agree to the following:

  1. We will not engage in unlawful, illegal, or unethical conduct.

  2. We consent to initial and ongoing screening by Ramsey Solutions (Dave’s company) to make sure that we haven’t committed any crimes or had a bankruptcy, and that we aren’t sex offenders.

  3. We are not to seek federal or state bankruptcy protection.

  4. We are not subject to any tax liens and not unlawfully evading or delinquent with taxes.

  5. We agree that eliminating debt and investing for the long-term is the ideal way to build wealth and prepare for retirement.

  6. We agree that clients should have a reasonable savings account or emergency fund before getting into investing.

  7. We agree to offer prompt and responsive client service.

  8. We are not under a mandatory policy that prevents us from working with clients of all account sizes, preferences, or backgrounds.

  9. We are familiar with Dave Ramsey’s philosophies.

  10. We have the operational capacity to serve more clients.

If we agree to the code of conduct and we are accepted into the program, we then pay Ramsey Solutions a monthly fee to be able to participate and be listed. This is a flat fee and is not determined by how many prospective clients in a given time period or anything like that.

So what do you get with a Dave Ramsey financial advisor? You get someone who has a certain amount of third-party vetting and who has agreed that they run their practice in a way that coincides with Dave’s philosophies.

What are the differences between Dave Ramsey financial advisors? One of the biggest differences would be compensation. Everyone operates their practice in a way that is slightly different, so you may find that the first advisor will offer to sell you mutual funds or an insurance product that you pay a commission for, the second advisor may offer to charge you a 1.25% fee on the accounts that they manage, the third advisor may offer to charge you a 1% fee on all of your assets including 401ks and real estate, and the fourth advisor may charge a flat up from planning fee. There are other differences between the group presented such as: virtual vs in-person meetings; areas of expertise; how often meetings occur; and how much access you have to the advisor as opposed to assess to their staff.

At the end of the day, starting with a list of advisors presented as Dave Ramsey financial advisors is a good start; however, take the time to understand the differences and find the practice that is best for you and your goals. At the Cremé Wealth Team we believe in full transparency and empowering people to make the right decision. Please reach out and continue to explore our website to learn about how we continue to work with clients beyond the baby steps to help them in maximizing their family legacy.
